EATING THEIR OWN: House Dems Harass Harry

As Senate Dems bent on their socialist 'progressive' principles on health care yesterday to accomodate Joe Lieberman, the fallout is causing more problems for Harry Reid.

Rolland Burris (D-IL) indicated that he would not be supporting a bill without the public option and Ben Nelson (D-NE) is still "not on the bill" due to its public funding for abortion.

This means the math is even worse for Harry Reid than it was yesterday.

Meanwhile, House Democrats are getting impatient with Harry Reid.

“I think the majority leader sometimes has to have the leadership to resolve these things,” says Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak, a Democrat challenging Sen. Arlen Specter, in a direct attack on Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.). “I understand it’s politically challenging, but we have the votes — and we should be doing much better than we are. I think this place needs a change, quite frankly.”

Further demonstrating their frustration, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is trying to quell fears of a populist backlash that is leaving her vulnerable House members feeling...well...vulnerable in 2010.

According to The HIll, Pelosi is assuring her queasy fellow Dems that the House will not take up any controversial bills unless the Senate acts first.

After a year of bruising legislative victories that some political analysts believe have done more to jeopardize her majority than to entrench it, Pelosi is shifting gears for the 2010 election.

“The Speaker has told members in meetings that we’ve done our jobs,” a Democratic leadership aide said. “And that next year the Senate’s going to have to prove what it can accomplish before we go sticking our necks out any further.”

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), the president of the freshman class, said that Pelosi came to last Wednesday’s freshman breakfast to deliver that message, and that it was met with wide spread approval.

“I think freshmen, particularly, are not enamored of the idea of being asked to walk the plank on a controversial item if the Senate is not going to take any action,” Connolly said.

This means that the liberal legislative agenda which includes things like amnesty for illegals, the job-destroying Employee Free FORCED Choice Act, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", as well as "Tax & Trade" may be doomed for the next year--until after the mid-terms (depending on the outcome then).

If this is indeed the case, the decimation of America may be forestalled for another year and perhaps Christmas has indeed come early.

Harry Reid Has a Problem: His State Opposes Obamacare

Harry Reid has a problem.  According to a poll commissioned by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, a majority of Nevadans are opposed to the Obama-Pelosi-Reid health care nationalization effort.

President Barack Obama has lost ground in the last month in getting Nevadans to embrace his health care reform package and, for the first time, opposition is above 50 percent and support is below 40 percent, a new poll commissioned by the Las Vegas Review-Journal reveals.

The telephone poll of 625 registered voters found that 53 percent of Nevadans oppose the president's attempt to provide a remedy for problems in the nation's health care system. Support for the plan is at 39 percent....

Fueling discontent with the bill, the poll shows, is the growing belief by Nevadans that Obama's reform package will raise taxes, result in rationing of health care, and cause major cuts to Medicare programs.

"When you look at the entire poll, it's clear the voters of Nevada do not want this bill to pass," said Brad Coker, managing partner of Washington, D.C.-based Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc., which conducted the poll Monday through Wednesday. "When you break it all down, it appears that Nevadans would just as soon throw this bill out and start over." [Emphasis added.]

SLAVERY TO THE STATE: DEMOCRATS VOTE TO MOVE FORWARD...

Another piece of slavery to the state falls into place...

Last night, the rulers and would-be slaveholders took another step toward their totalitarian takeover of America's health care.

Of note, they use the excuse of insuring the uninsured and lowering costs. However, the House bill leaves 18 million uninsured and the Senate bill leaves 24 million uninsured, according to Bloomberg.

Under both bills, all Americans will see their health care costs increase.

Under both bills, all Americans' health insurance will be controlled by government bureaucrats.

Under both bills, ALL Americans will become subjects of the State.

Politicians Want to Hide Health Care Bill...

It's kind of scary when politicians want to hide the stuff they're up to from the very people who pay their salaries and keep them in their posh DC digs. In fact, it sort of stinks.

Yet, that is what Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid & Co. are plotting to do as they try to nationalize the health care system by passing one of the most intrusive pieces of legislation written in U.S. history.

From the Washington Examiner:

As Congress lurches closer to a decision on an enormous overhaul of the American health care system, pressure is mounting on legislative leaders to make the final bill available online for citizens to read before a vote.

Lawmakers were given just hours to examine the $789 billion stimulus plan, sweeping climate-change legislation and a $700 billion bailout package before final votes.

While most Americans normally ignore parliamentary detail, with health care looming, voters are suddenly paying attention. The Senate is expected to vote on a health bill in the weeks to come, representing months of work and stretching to hundreds of pages. And as of now, there is no assurance that members of the public, or even the senators themselves, will be given the chance to read the legislation before a vote.

The [Sunlight Foundation] has begun an effort to get Congress to post bills online, for all to see, 72 hours before lawmakers vote on them.

"It would give the public a chance to really digest and understand what is in the bill," [Lisa] Rosenberg said, "and communicate whether that is a good or a bad thing while there is still time to fix it."

A similar effort is under way in Congress. Reps. Brian Baird, D-Wash., and Greg Walden, R-Ore., are circulating a petition among House lawmakers that would force a vote on the 72-hour rule.

Nearly every Republican has signed on, but the Democratic leadership is unwilling to cede control over when bills are brought to the floor for votes and are discouraging their rank and file from signing the petition.

Senate Democrats voted down a similar measure last week for the health care bill.

While it is argued that Republicans are guilty of the same obstruction of transparency (e.g., the Patriot Act), both sides should be more accountable for their actions and it is up to the citizens to make that happen by demanding transparency by all the politicians.

SOCIALIZED MEDICINE FREAKS' HELLISH RUSH TO PASS AN UNWRITTEN BILL

After having their constituents raise holy hell with them over these past several weeks, one would think that Democrats would slow down and rethink plunging American headfirst into nationalizing health care. Afterall, the President did say that it needed to be done right, didn't he? However, that apparently is not going to happen.

According to ABC News, the President is pushing for urgency to get a bill through Congress and Democrat leaders Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid stated they can get a package passed--even if they don't know what that package is.

While White House spokesman Robert Gibbs today refrained from telling reporters whether President Obama in his speech Wednesday night will set a deadline for passing health care reform, sources tell ABC News that in his private meeting with Democratic congressional leaders this afternoon the key word was
urgency.

The president told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., that it is important for them to pass health care reform bills soon, the sources said. Both leaders told the president that despite the difficult rough and tumble of the legislative process in the last few weeks, they are optimistic that both the House and Senate can pass health care reform legislation.

What will be in the bill remains an open question, though after the meeting, Reid told reporters that “we're going to do our very best to have a public option or something like a public option before we finish this
work.” [Emphasis added.]

ON SEPTEMBER 8TH, YOUR CHILD WILL BE LISTENING TO BARACK OBAMA (WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT)

Start de-programming your children now, because on September 8th, the first day of school for millions of school children across the country, the President of the United States will be speaking to ALL public school children from kindergarten through high school.

While there are no announcements stating that this will be a political attempt to turn the nation's children into Obama disciples, the Drudge Report has posted a "Menu of Activities" from the U.S. Dept. of Education telling teachers how to raise awareness to the president's "message" (whatever that message may be).

In addition, given the speed in which Obama-Reid-Pelosi triumvirate has instilled the reaching hand of government into all the more orifices of American life, suspecting that the president will attempt to turn kids into converts for his message is not an unreasonable suspicion.

SENATE MAJORITY LEADER TURNS INTO THUGGISH, SCHOOL-YARD BULLY...[AND GET'S A 'BULLY BEAT DOWN']

It is very easy to say this with a straight face: For at least six out of the eight years of the Bush presidency, the media was less than friendly with the president. In fact, some could say the press was overtly hostile to the Bush Administration.

Yet, in all those years of the blood sport that became known as 'Bush Bashing' never did the former president say to one of those who were critical of him: 'I hope you go out of business.'

Yet, that is what Senate Majority Harry Reid allegedly told the Director of Advertising of the Las Vegas Review-Journal last Wednesday at a Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Then, later, according to the Review-Journal, Reid said he wanted to let everyone know that he wants the Review-Journal to continue selling advertising because the Las Vegas Sun is delivered inside the Review-Journal.

These two remarks prompted a scathing rebuke from the publisher of the Review-Journal wrote:

This newspaper traces its roots to before Las Vegas was Las Vegas.

We've seen cattle ranches give way to railroads. We chronicled the construction of Hoover Dam. We reported on the first day of legalized gambling. The first hospital. The first school. The first church. We survived the mob, Howard Hughes, the Great Depression, several recessions, two world wars, dozens of news competitors and any number of two-bit politicians who couldn't stand scrutiny, much less criticism.

We're still here doing what we do for the people of Las Vegas and Nevada. So, let me assure you, if we weathered all of that, we can damn sure outlast the bully threats of Sen. Harry Reid.

Such behavior cannot go unchallenged.

You could call Reid's remark ugly and be right. It certainly was boorish. Asinine? That goes without saying.

But to fully capture the magnitude of Reid's remark (and to stop him from doing the same thing to others) it must be called what it was -- a full-on threat perpetrated by a bully who has forgotten that he was elected to office to protect Nevadans, not sound like he's shaking them down.

No citizen should expect this kind of behavior from a U.S. senator. It is certainly not becoming of a man who is the majority leader in the U.S. Senate. And it absolutely is not what anyone would expect from a man who now asks Nevadans to send him back to the Senate for a fifth term.

If he thinks he can push the state's largest newspaper around by exacting some kind of economic punishment in retaliation for not seeing eye to eye with him on matters of politics, I can only imagine how he pressures businesses and individuals who don't have the wherewithal of the Review-Journal.

For the sake of all who live and work in Nevada, we can't let this bully behavior pass without calling out Sen. Reid. If he'll try it with the Review-Journal, you can bet that he's tried it with others. So today, we serve notice on Sen. Reid that this creepy tactic will not be tolerated.

We won't allow you to bully us. And if you try it with anyone else, count on going through us first.

That's a promise, not a threat.

And it's a promise to our readers, not to you, Sen. Reid.

Clearly, the Las Vegas Review-Journal understands the how to handle a school-yard bully like Harry Reid.
